Tai chi is a variant of Qigong, and contains different fighting and endurance techniques. Tai chi involves a series of harmonic movements that are carried out fluidly, rhythmically and very precisely. While learning Tai chi, you must first learn the slow version. When you have mastered the slow version, you can learn to use Tai chi as self-defense (the same movements but carried at much greater speeds.) What happens during Tai chi: the internal organs are massaged by constant movement through the body’s centre of gravity - the waist the blood circulation is stimulated; the finger tips become warm and breathing is improved the immune response strengthens and the energy is restored, because the flow of energy (Qi/Chi) stimulates the same energy paths (meridians) as at acupuncture the exercise has a calming effect
In addition Tai chi makes you stronger and more flexible, and also promotes concentration, self-confidence, peace of mind and attention. How to learn Tai chi Tai chi is best learned from a Tai chi master in classes. For best possible effect of Tai chi, you should practice it regularly on your own. There are several books that can be helpful while learning Tai chi, for example “Tai Chi Quan – 24 and 48 Movements” which comes with an accompanying video (available from YMAA Publication Center). Tai chi chuan There are several styles of Tai chi. The martial arts inspired style of Tai chi is called Tai chi chuan. Chuan means fist or hand.
