Here are some possible causes for sleeping problems and suggestions to what you can do with them:

  • Poor balance in life:
    • poor sleep can be an important sign that you need a more suitable balance between rest, recreation and career. You ought to evaluate your situation of life, and if necessary, do some adjustments and/or change the order of your priorities
    • sick out a psychologist or adviser if you need help
  • Worries for the next day:
    • do you have problem sleeping because you are thinking about everything you have to do tomorrow? Write down all the things you have to do and remember – this will help temporary
    • in the long run:
      • consider; do you have too much strain and responsibility in your life? If yes, make changes that will improve your situation
      • make plans for tomorrow during daytime
      • learn stress coping and relaxation
  • Problems in life:
    • it is not the time to solve problems when you have gone to bed. Put aside time during the day to think about problems, but try not to brooder too much
    • talk with someone you trust and are familiar with. Maybe they can help you find a solution. Anyway; problems often seem smaller after you have talked about them. If necessary; seek out a psychologist
    • some worry too much and can benefit from getting a more relaxed view on life – a psychologist can help you with this

 

 

  • Restless thoughts:
    • several techniques can calm the thoughts down:
      • visualize a big eagle that fly away with the problem
      • do not let the thoughts stick in your mind – make yourself “immune” to them
      • relaxation and meditation
  • Negative thoughts about the sleeping problems:
    • several that suffer from insomnia, develops negative thoughts that maintain the sleeping problems. Try to focus and worry less over the sleeping problems. Go and see a psychologist if necessary.
